I promised I’d let you know what I thought about the free teleseminar on getting print publicity. There was a fair amount of pushing for everyone to go to the upcoming $5000+ media publicity summit. It may very well be a great program, but I still felt it was given a ridiculous amount of the air time.
Other than that, a lot of the tips were common sense stuff that applies to doing well in business in general. But it never hurts to be reminded of these business basics.
Namely… think about what you can offer the other person, what service can you provide for them? In the case of media people, can you be a source of information or interesting quotes? Think in terms of developing relationships rather than scoring a big interview.
Do your homework whenever you are applying for anything. Learn something about the other person. In the case of print media, this means you don’t go trying to land an interview on your book about marital bliss with Car & Driver magazine. Editors said it’s amazing how many people contact them requesting some of their time without having spent any time learning about the magazine or newspaper.
So, those are good points, worth stating and restating. But, the bottom line message was… to get life changing media coverage. Cough up the entrance fee to the publicity summit.
Maybe next year for me.
